Views from Home: Anwatin Pond
The ‘Views from Home’ series captures treasured places near our home in the vast Theo Wirth park in Minneapolis. My runs often wind. me through the woods and around the lake, carrying moments of release and tranquility juxtaposed with exhaustion and adrenaline. Each painting plays with its own tension of realism and abstraction as I attempt to capture both its physical beauty as well as the specific emotion it evokes.
Anwatin pond is extra special to me. It is nestled in the woods behind our house and next to our daughter’s nature preschool in the forest. Her little ‘classroom’ is just around the bend. I love running the trails around this pond and seeing all the ways it changes with the elements and seasons. It almost always has this special glow about it, as if its hidden there waiting to show off for those who come to find it.
